I am a Botanist and Pharmaceutical scientist. Earlier in my life I concentrated on horticulture, expressing myself through designing and installing perennial gardens. Propagating thousands of perennials and woody plants, I also trained specimens into “standards” used at estates and public gardens.   My true encouragment came from my own garden, where over the past 25 years I have been able to experiment, change and rearrange the plant material that has been my inspiration. It has been my palette.

            Over the past 9 years I have returned to my interest in visual art through the making of tile and mosaics, through which I have been able to express my love of things natural. I am drawn to the natural beauty of insects, plants and birds, and find myself investigating the order and rhythm of nature through clay. The mosaic background or frame is part of a puzzle, an interaction of color, texture and organic shapes. Through my tiles I am studying the form, color and patterns of insects and vegetation, that have fascinated me all these years. For me this medium serves as a window to the underlying order of the natural world.
